About the panelists:
Karl Schmedders is Professor of Finance at IMD, a private business school in Lausanne, Switzerland. His research and teaching at IMD focus on sustainability and the economics of climate change. Before joining IMD, Karl was Professor of Quantitative Business Administration at the University in Zurich and Associate Professor of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois/USA. He received a PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University. Karl is a Fellow of the Game Theory Society and an Economic Theory Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory.
Lucyna Stańczak – Wuczyńska, chairwoman of Supervisory Board of BNP Bank Polska S.A.
During her professional career, she has performed a number of corporate governance functions: was a member (or an observer) of supervisory boards and a member of audit and risk committees at, inter alia, Emitel Sp. z o.o., Polkomtel Sp. z o.o., Alior Bank S.A., and Polskie Inwestycje Rozwojowe S.A, and was a member of the Advisory Board of Private Equity Fund Concordia 21. Currently she sits on the Supervisory Boards of Erste Bank, Hungary in Budapest and she is a Chairwoman of BNP Paribas Bank Polska S.A. Supervisory Board. Sustainability and Green Economy Transition have always been important focus areas in her professional career. She was involved in financing projects connected with renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-carbon economy, sustainable finance, (Polseff, Polfref at EBRD), investing in green bonds, green covered bonds, as well as ESG matters in the area of corporate governance and reporting. In 2015, she was named one of 10 most influential women of Polish finance, an award granted by the Innovative Economy Institute together with the “Znane Ekspertki” (Known Female Experts) Foundation, and the Polish Bank Association.
Irena Pichola has more than 20 years of professional experience in ESG strategic consulting. At Deloitte, she is the partner responsible for sustainability consulting in Central Europe. Irena has led complex projects, including implementation of ESG strategies, ESG stakeholder relationship analysis, strategic planning to promote sustainable investments, and implementation of energy efficiency strategies. She is very active in the work of international organizations dealing with sustainability issues, such as GRI, WBCSD, CSR Europe. Irena was honored as one of the 25 Sustainability Leaders in Poland. She is a board member of the Responsible Business Forum in Poland.
